The reference photo for this dog artwork was kindly supplied by their owner, my friend and a very talented photographer, Nina Bless.

This portrait of Carla and Zavannah combines watercolour and oil based artist pencils, using a combination of painting and drawing techniques. I used Caran D’Ache and Faber Castell watercolour pencils, applied dry then blended with water, for the initial sketch, then built up layers, adding depth and detail, using oil based pencils by the same manufacturers to produce a realistic and lifelike portrait.

‘Dashing Through the Snow’ will be available as both greeting cards and prints. This winter wonderland scene is ideal as a Christmas card for any Bernese lover.
