Bernese Mountain Dog Portrait – Jess

Drawing of Bernese Mountain Dog JessThis week I’ve been using graphite pencils instead of colours to create this portrait of my studio buddy, Bernese Mountain Dog,  Jess.

This sassy little fruit loop is a rabbit chasing, fox-poo rolling, pheasant catching, sofa surfing, life-loving sweetheart with a mischievous twinkle in her eye.

Jess’ portrait was traditionally hand-drawn on heavy-weight, smooth-surface cartridge paper using Faber Castell 9000 artist pencils.

The darker tones are produced using softer 8B, 6B and 4B pencils with a combination of blending tools and the coat definition was achieved using harder 4H and 6H leads and a selection of erasers.
